Three days is the shortest trip that can include the lagoon, and the lagoon needs a whole day — not an afternoon. That is the entire reason to have a third day.
The plan
- Days 1–2 — As above: San Marco and Rialto, then Dorsoduro and the Frari.
- Day 3, morning — Line 12 from Fondamente Nove to Murano. Watch someone blow glass, then walk to Santa Maria e Donato at the far end.
- Day 3, midday — On to Burano. Walk two streets back from the photographed one.
- Day 3, afternoon — Five minutes further to Torcello for the basilica — the Last Judgement, the Madonna, and an island with a dozen residents.
- Day 3, evening — ⚠️ Check the last boat before you sit down anywhere. There is no other way back.

The three islands are on one line and the timetable is built for the Murano → Burano → Torcello order. Doing it backwards wastes an hour.

What this plan is built around
Not a list of sights, but the constraints: only four bridges over the Grand Canal, the market shut on Sunday and Monday, churches closed over lunch and much of Sunday morning, museums on their own weekday, a last boat back from the islands, and a tide that can put water across St Mark’s Square for a couple of hours.

Other lengths
Checked on 5 September 2026. Opening patterns, tide forecasts and boat timetables change — confirm before you travel. All sixteen sights, one page each, in Landmarks & Sights.
